A little bit about Ardlogie and your hosts......
Ardlogie (which means 'high of the hollow' in Gaelic) is one of a pair of houses built at the same time (1909) and facing the River Spey. This means the front door and guest entrance is in what most people would consider to be the back garden. This way of building is not unusual in the Highlands and indeed is common along this road.
There are some interesting building touches related to where we are...e.g. the insulation between the ground and first floors consists of clinker, obtained from the railway yards when the house was built !
The main house was extended some 30 years ago to provide owners accommodation and extra room in some of the public rooms such as the Breakfast room. The timber Bothy (used for self catering) has been rebuilt by us in 2010.
An aerial photo of the house before all this work can be seen in the Breakfast Room.
We bought this business in February 2007, and have since discovered that Ardlogie has been a B&B or Guest House, probably since the 1970s and that we are the 5th couple to be running Ardlogie as a business in that time. Some of the family that first started Ardlogie as a business still live in the Aviemore area.
We are Richard & Elaine, originally from way down south (North London and Bournemouth), we first discovered this area as tourists ourselves, before deciding to move here to live and work.
